Dr. Eddie Lo and R.N. Elaine Morood examine
patient John Nguyen while mom, Kim Nguyen, and dad, Sydung Nguyen, add
their support. At The Mississauga Hospital, patients and families are considered "partners in good health." This focus on "family-centred care" is a long established tradition at the hospital.
The history of The Mississauga Hospital has been one of
establishing and expanding program in response to the needs of
a rapidly growing population that bas increased at a rate unparalleled by almost any other municipality in Canada.
The outcome has been a range of services that provides acontinuum of care for community members of all age groups, from newborns to the elderly, and which
encompasses health care for patients with acute, mental health
and long term needs.
Guided by a strategic plan that is updated annually,
the development of the hospital was intended to
evolve the context of an appropriate role for a community
hospital
By our definition, that means family-centred care, with specialization to a secondary level of complexity. The exception is our highly successful neurosciences program, which provides care at a tertiary level.
Quality has been a cornerstone of service
provision at the Mississauga Hospital since its inception. Ensuring
that it continues to improve is a hospital-wide commitment
that is being monitored internally by the Board of Directors'
Quality Assurance Committee.
Externally, our commitment to excellence was confirmed by a three-year award from the Canadian Council on Health Facilities Accreditation received m June.
